Taryn from Southern Wines!
2 - 5 p.m.

Taryn will do a mini-tour of the world with wines
from Italy, France, Argentina, California, and
New Zealand
.
This will truly be an eclectic group
as there will be white, red, and rose’, and all

different varietals.  The only common thread is
they are all Taryn’s wines, and they
are excellent!

Saturday, July 5
Karen & Greg's Picks!
2 - 5 p.m.
28 years of wedded bliss! (can you believe we
got married when we were 12?).

Back in 1980, Bjorn Borg beat John McEnroe at Wimbledon in one of the longest tiebreakers in history, and even more exciting, Karen and I
were married.  We’ll pick some of our favorite
wines for you to enjoy!

Saturday, July 12
Great Blends!
2 - 5 p.m.

Often when wines are blended, the whole is
greater than the sum of the parts.  We’ll open up
both white and red blends that are perfect for

the dinner table.

The Wine Spectator February issue is titled, “Ultimate Buying Guide”.  This is a recap of the 16,000 wines they tasted during the year.  For a Finance guy turned wine shop owner, this issue provided lots of data to analyze.  Of course, it is most relevant to try to tie their information into what’s happening at our shop.  Well, here’s what I found interesting, with the Wine Spectator stat followed by our Kelley Cellars (KC) stat:

1)      % of wines rated over 95 was 2%: KC 2%

2)      % of wines rated over 90 was 26%: KC 36%

3)      % of wines 85-89 points was 48%: KC 63%

4)      % of wines rated below 85 was 26%: KC < 1%

5)      Average cost of wines 90+ was $67: KC $36

What do these scores really mean?   Well, they are an indicator,  just like

grades are an indicator in school.  Wines rated 85 or better are typically very

good.   The comparisons above are very exciting to us, because we taste a

couple of thousand wines per year ourselves.  Our goals include having all wines

85 points or better, combined with the best prices at their relative quality levels,

and at least 125 wines priced below $15.  Among the best compliments we receive is, “you can’t buy a bad bottle in your shop”.  We’ll keep tasting and working hard to make sure that is always true.
